Servía una milagro para recuperar la derrota increíble, impensable de la ida. No llegó. El Barca tenía que ganar 4-0 para ir a la prórroga. Gran gesta de los leones del Athletic Bilbao, que después un partido defensivo logran el gol fundamental con Aduriz. El partido empieza bien para el Barca, que adopta una tactica ofensiva, y después solo 7' crea una ocasión importante con Piquè que se acerca muchísimo al gol, golpeando el travesaño. El Atlhetic es muy agresivo y presiona los blaugrana sin miedo y por eso el Barcelona no consigue a crear ningun ocasión límpido en la primera parte, al contrario el Bilbao llega muy cerca del gol de la victoria al 38', con Eraso que frente a Bravo, en posición apartada, tira fuera, arrojando una grande ocasión. Pero, mientras todos estaban yendo en los vestuarios, llega el gol del habitual Messi, que gracias a una estupenda asistencia de Suarez, se encuentra solo contro Iraizoz, el campeón argentino controla de pecho sin problema, y marca el gol que da esperanza a los hombres de Luis Enrique. En la segunda parte, el tiempo pasa y el ataque del Barcelona no tiene éxito, sobretodo a causa de la expulsión de Pique al 56'. No obstante la inferioridad numérica sigue obteniendo ocasiones, tanto con Suarez que con Rakitic. Al 74' llega el gol de la vida de Aduriz: después los tre goles de la ida, el basco marca todavía, con un gol de gran frialdad.
